Junior High League Rules

Below are the rules for the various middle schools leagues we service.  If you have a question on a rule please reach out to the assignor.  If needed, default to the NFHS high school rules for any particular situation.

Schools:  Beechwood, Brea, Buena Park, Gordon Beatty, Ladera Vista, Nicholas,  Parks, Robert Fisler

Dual-Referee System, plays two 25-minute halves, with a 5-minute halftime.

There is no overtime until the playoff games. Therefore, if the regular season game ends in a tie, the score stands as a tie. 

We have a "Sportsmanship Rule," where if the goal difference is 5 goals, bench players are to be put in and the coach pulls back play (especially if their starters are in). 

There is absolutely NO slide tackling and NO dangerous play in our league. SAFETY FIRST

When it gets to the playoff games (semifinals & championship game), if there is a tie, then: 

a) There is a 10-minute "Sudden Death" overtime. 1st team to score wins! 

b) Sudden Death Penalty Kicks (max. 5 attempts for the Championship game only)

c) Co-Champions (Championship game only)

Schools:  Community Roots, El Sol, Fairmont SJC, Magnolia Science, OCCA, OCEAA, Oxford, Samueli, Santiago, Stratford, Vista Heritage

Single Referee during regular season games, Dual-Referee system in Playoffs.

Two 25 min halves. 5 min halftime. Ties at the end of regulation go into PKs, 5 player shootout (followed by sudden death pks as needed).  GK must have played the last 10 minutes of regulation to be the GK for the PK shootout.  Each player on team (not just on field) takes a PK before anyone repeats.

If there is a conflict of colors, the home team is responsible for providing colored pennies.

Games are 11v11. If a team has any less than 9 players, then the game is forfeited. 

Free subs on any stoppage.

Schools : Cerro Villa, El Rancho, McPherson, Portola, Santiago, Yorba

All games are single referee.

Games are 11v11 and are two 25 minute halves. No ties. 

Tie games go straight to Penalty Kicks (No overtime).

No limit to the size of rosters.

Subs allowed on team's own throw-ins and goal kicks (if opposing team is subbing on their throw-in or GK, then you may also sub), and either team can sub after a goal is scored.

No subs on corner kicks or free kicks.
